I always heard that Twitter is a great website and that everyone is using it these days. I agree with one of those comments. I feel that everyone is using Twitter and that's great but I just don't like the fact that anyone can look at my profile no matter if I want them to or not. Twitter is a great way to meet new people and to stay in touch with people that you don't get to see very much. However, I would much rather use Facebook to keep in touch with people that I am close to.
When I first started using Twitter I wasn't for sure exactly how to work everything. I didn't really understand much besides to post a tweet and then you follow people. I didn't really understand much more than that. I didn't really like the fact that when somebody says something specifically to you it doesn't appear as a notification or something new that is on your profile like it does on Facebook. I also don't exaclty get why there is a leave preview option. I mean if you are going to look at somebodies profile you want to just be able to click on it. I didn't understand that part of Twitter right away. Here is a link to a guide to Twitter that I found to be helpful in understanding the Twitter options. http://mashable.com/guidebook/twitter/
Over the past two weeks of using Twitter has been nothing too harmful but I don't think I would want to keep my account. I don't think I get the whole point of Twitter anyway. Plus I just don't like the fact that anybody in the world that has a Twitter account can look at what I'm doing or look at my pictures. Another reason why I am probably not going to keep my account is because nobody that I want to keep in touch with has a Twitter account. Here is a link to my Twitter account: http://twitter.com/alexbedwards.
A way that I could benefit from using Twitter if I would keep my account would be that I could make new friendships with people here at Iowa State and I also get informed of different events that are going on at Iowa State. Twitter is an ok form of social media. However, I would much rather use facebook or something else.
I definitely understand the point of getting rid of your account, if I wasn't using it to hear about news back home, I would get rid of my account too. It is creepy how easy it is for people to follow you when you don't even know them.
ReplyDeleteI did not care for how easy it was for other people to access my information as well. I had several people follow me that I did not know. It was kind of wierd, because I could not understand why anyone would care to read about some random person.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Shannon and Cody. I don't think I will be keeping my account either because I don't really feel comfortable for people I don't know reading what I do on a day-to-day basis.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the two things you presented in the introduction. I agree that it seems like everyone is on Twitter and I also didn't like the fact that anyone could look at my profile. I also am more fond of Facebook at this time.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with the fact that I will stick to Facebook to keep up with my friends but I use Twitter as a more formal kind of contact. I message the Administration of my high school and also the Tech Cordinator. I think that Twitter is a lot better to keep in contact with them instead of Facebook because I feel like Facebook is more of an informal thing.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Not recieving a notification when someone refernces you in a tweet is very annoying and very discomforting. I don't understand how Twitter is more formal then Facebook? I feel much more freedom and personality comes from Facebook than Twitter.
